My Bondage and My Freedom is an autobiographical slave narrative written by Frederick Douglass and published in 1855. It is the second of three autobiographies written by Douglass, and is mainly an expansion of his first (Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass), discussing in greater detail his transition from bondage to liberty. Following this liberation, Douglass, a former slave, went on to become a prominent abolitionist, speaker, author, and publisher. In his foreword to the 2003 Modern Library paperback edition, John Stauffer writes: My Bondage and My Freedom, [is] a deep meditation on the meaning of slavery, race, and freedom, and on the power of faith and literacy, as well as a portrait of an individual and a nation a few years before the Civil War. As his narrative unfolds, Frederick Douglassabolitionist, journalist, orator, and one of the most powerful voices to emerge from the American civil rights movementtransforms himself from slave to fugitive to reformer, leaving behind a legacy of social, intellectual, and political thought. The 1855 text includes Douglasss original Appendix, composed of excerpts from the authors speeches as well as a letter he wrote to his former master. 1984 by George Orwell Reviews Discussion Bookclubs Lists WAR IS PEACE FREEDOM IS SLAVERY IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH Those words keep sounding in my head since I read this book Gosh probably the most haunting not to mention African American History: Bibliography The Black Past NOTE: THIS PAGE IS NOW OBSELETE PLEASE USE OUR NEW INTERACTIVE BIBLIOGRAPHY HERE The books listed below are excellent sources of general information for research on Galatians Commentaries & Sermons Precept Austin Galatians Resources Commentaries Sermons Illustrations Devotionals See Disclaimer Magna Carta of Spiritual Emancipation Click chart to enlarge Squanto - Wikipedia Name Documents from the 17th century variously spell Squanto's name as Tisquantum Tasquantum Tusquantum Squanto Squantum Tantum and Tantam Even the two Elie Wiesel - Nobel Lecture: Hope Despair and Memory Elie Wiesel - Nobel Lecture Nobel Lecture December 11 1986 Hope Despair and Memory A Hasidic legend tells us that the great Rabbi Baal-Shem-Tov Master of the Sylvia Plath Forum: Tulips I have to admit that I never liked Plath's poetry when I studied it in high school but now at university I have grown to like it because I know understand it Thomas Jefferson - Wikiquote I congratulate you my dear friend on the law of your state for suspending the importation of slaves and for the glory you have justly acquired by endeavoring to Joan Tollifson's List of Recommended Books JOAN'S ANNOTATED RECOMMENDED READING LIST This list of recommended authors and books about nonduality and waking up is based on my own tastes and resonances and is Walt Whitman: Song of Myself - DayPoems To link to this poem put the URL below into your page: a href="daypoemsnet/poems/1900html"Song of Myself by Walt Whitman/a Plain for Printing Abraham Lincoln - Wikipedia Abraham Lincoln (i / e b r h m l k n /; February 12 1809 April 15 1865) was an American politician and lawyer who served as the 16th
